My Y0708 Sem02 Life

DAY 1 : A102 Basic Sciences II
Faci : Olivia Chan
Aims & Objectives:
Science is essentially the collection of ideas that seek to explain nature. Over the centuries, many scientific theories have been formulated and accepted, occasionally being overthrown by newer ones. We have a wealth of understanding about our natural world - what it is made of, how it ticks, and how life carries on. The Basic Sciences modules provide an introduction to foundational scientific principles and applications. Much of this scientific knowledge is immensely valuable not only by its pervasiveness through practical applications but also by its intrinsic beauty and its power to inspire. A range of topics will be covered, from energy to electricity, from atomic structure to the structure of organic compounds, from cells to recombinant DNA technology, and from Newtonian mechanics to special relativity.

The topics addressed in the basic sciences module are as follows (not in any order):
- Basic electric circuits
- Speed, force, momentum, energy and power
- Electromagnetism
- Liquid pressure and flow through tubes
- Heat capacity, conduction, and latent heat
- Atomic structure and chemical bonds; solubility
- Organic chemistry - relationship between structures and functions (Stereochemistry).
- Basic physiological concepts of the cells, tissues and vital organ systems; and the molecular and cellular basis of disease process.
- Application and impact of biotechnology such as recombinant DNA technologies.
- Understand the distribution of disease and fitting observations about disease occurrence into known scientific and medical knowledge.
- Address the body’s ability to recognize self from non-self (Immunology).

DAY 2 : A112 Computing and Mathematical Methods II
Faci : Wilbur Tan
Aims & Objectives:
These two modules provide a strong grounding in computing and mathematical methods. Specific issues addressed are as follows: The number system; data types; operators; functions; set theory and logic; matrices and eigenvectors; permutations and combinations; probability and probability distributions; sampling; population parameters; significance testing; system of linear equations; power series; differential equations; numerical integration; complex numbers; program control structures, sorting, searching, recursion, and object-oriented programming.

DAY 8 : G106 Enterprise Skills II
Faci : Toh Poh Joo

DAY 3 : G102 Cognitive Processes and Problem Solving II
Faci : Evelyn Kow
Aims & Objectives:
G102 will build on the skills and processes learnt in the first semester. Students will be exposed to further situations that would enable them to engage critically with knowledge, and how this can be used to understand the world around them. Harnessing the Problem-Based Learning tools that were introduced in the first semester, students will deal with issues concerning the construction of knowledge, how we structure the world that we perceive and how we can better make use of what we know in different environments.
By the end of the module, students should be able to recognise how knowledge is built up through the individual’s engagement with concepts and relationships between concepts. Students should feel comfortable when faced with a problem scenario in the real world or otherwise, and will be able to handle them in a systematic manner. They should also be able to examine and critique the validity of knowledge and consider social and ethical aspects in their reasoning.

DAY 4 : G104 Contemporary Issues in Culture and Aesthetics
Faci : Surya Kenchana
Aims & Objectives:
G104 is designed to help students to be aware of, sensitive to, and understand the symbols and ideas of human societies so that they can respond effectively to the world around them.

Form Confirmation

Thank you for submitting the following information:

StudentID: 71835
cartname: HANDII GIFT
SE: SIMEI CARE CENTRE, aims to make a differences to those psychiatric disabilities people lives and help them by trading their product.
B1: Submit

Recommendation:
How do you think the merchandise sold by the social enterprise can be improved? (at least 100 words)

I could observe most of the people passes by there are those working adult and young adult. There are selling greeting cards, Memo pads, pouch and others more. The merchandise can be improved is to repackage it with more attractive colourful packaging and with some modern pictures or words with it. Merchandise such like Memo pads are too common and plain, it would be better if there is some art pieces designed on the boxes that those people who likes arts would definitely buy it. And pouch could sew up with some meaningful and nice catchy phrase to give people a great impression wanting to buy. And also by attaching the purposes of each of the merchandise in small piece of notes would let people better understanding of buying the thing for. I would suggest more toward an art piece design, as sometimes, it is priceless and unique if it is draw by people.

Discover the 90/10 Principle.

Received one email from my
GE insurance agent..

It's attached with one article.
Here's the knowledge I had gained.
Hope to share with everyone.

Discover the 90/10 Principle.

It will change your life (at least the way you react to situations).

What is this principle? 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react.

What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic.

We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%.

How? ……….By your reaction.

You cannot control a red light. But you can control your reaction. Don't let people fool you; YOU can control how you react.

Let's use an example.

You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee
onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just happened.

What happens next will be determined by how you react.

You curse.

You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus.

Your spouse must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit.

After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home.

When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter.

Why? …. Because of how you reacted in the morning.

Why did you have a bad day?

A) Did the coffee cause it?
B) Did your daughter cause it?
C) Did the policeman cause it?
D) Did you cause it?

The answer is "D".
You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5
seconds is what caused your bad day.

Here is what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, "Its ok honey, you just need to be more careful next time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.

Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

Why?

Because of how you REACTED.

You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle. If someone says something negative about you, don't be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You don't have to let the negative comment affect you!

React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Pound on the steering wheel? A friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off) Do you
curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them?

WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars ruin your drive?

Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it.

You are told you lost your job.

Why lose sleep and get irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying energy and time into finding another job.

The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take outpour frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on.

Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger. Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse.

Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it. The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle.

The result?

Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and heartache. We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

It CAN change your life!!!

Enjoy….

RJ for 2nd talk

DISPEL: to remove false ideas, usually by proving them wrong or unnecessary

What myths about exercise have you been able to dispel today?

The myths about exercise that I have able to dispel today is that endurance athletes do not fall ill more than other athletes. From previous generations, people experienced that the more they exercise, the healthier they would be. Therefore, this concept is passed down to the next generation to us, telling us that the more we exercise, our body’s stamina would increase and fight against any illness. Thus, many of us think that this is true since it’s passed down by experienced elderly.

Nevertheless, through this talk, researchers had found out that overtraining would lead to indirect mechanisms and direct mechanisms. We cannot depend solely on exercising to keep ourselves healthy as inadequate nutrients in the body will also causes direct and indirect negative effects on the immune function which results in decrease of the whole immune system, which in turn, lead to illnesses.

Researchers have also found out the effects on intensive and moderate exercise and training. For effect on intensive training and moderate exercising, proves that we will get ill more easily as the immune system is decreasing.

Lastly, in order to keep ourselves healthier, we must be able to balance out both exercising in our own pace with a suitable duration and eating a balanced diet to replenish the nutrients in our body. By doing all this, we can maintain a good immune system in our body to fight against all kinds of illnesses.

The most important thing that we do have to keep in our mind is Cortisol increase, Cytokines decrease, immune function affected.

"Do endurance sport athletes fall ill
more than other athletes?"
It's content is so complex
that we learn nothing about it...
but there was something inside
quite funny la
the lecture mention the homo thingy...
say what when you exercise
the homo start to activate
then it become very high and passionate
lol.....hahahahaha
Talk quite short....only about 45 mins

Then we all go down to w1 foodcourt
'cos allan, hongwei and jason havent
had their lunch yet.....

Then something bad happen....
actually sufiya called jason to go
down to pass her the $60 from marcus
but after that...
he decided not going down anymore
philip called and say he no $

to tampines safra orchid bowl
to bowl....so many ppl over there
we were on the waiting list...
while waiting for sabrina to come

finally when its our turns
we go for 1 round first
but for the 1st five throw
something special blocking
the ball from going into the drain
haha
den it was remove by the worker
we had to suffer more to have the
ball going into the drain...lol
Jason won the first round
after that
We start our 2nd round again
Hongwei say 1st time playing
but can throw until so well man
sabrina start to become pro
lol...keep strike and spare...
In the end....she took a pic
of the score sheet....
'cos game won the game..
wAhAhA...

When we finished the games
it's around 5pm liao
so allan go home to eat
and then me, sab, jason,
went to hongwei house
to see hongwei had his dinner
rest for awhile...
and go off to the macDonald's
that near to allan house....

when we finished....
allan den come down find us..

So we sit there and chatchat
awhile until 7.30pm
sab said she wanna go toliet
den hongwei say wanna play
pank on her....
so we walked to the non-aircon
part of the mcd....
so she couldnt find.....and called me
but i didnt answer...
'cos cannot hear phone crying
lol

so took bus12 to downtown east
to join their bbq
this time was at pit15
den see philip very stress
keep smoking all the way...
me didnt eat or drink anything
anyway...i didnt pay.....
and jason start to offer free
bbq'ing for them again...
due to danial was so realistic
only bbq the food for himself

then went to macafe for
a hot drink....a small hot chocolate
for $3.80...yoz
with marcus and jason
they 2 have a small cuppuccino
for $2.50..lol...cheaper than mine

RJ abt backpack

RJ: What insight did I gain from today's talk.

The insight that I had gained from today talk is that we must take note of the way we carry our bag, especially when we are carrying heavy loads with us. Recently, when I went for spine checkup, the doctor tells me that my left lumbar hump is positive 3 degrees off. It is due to back the years, I had been carrying heavy bag to school improperly.

After the talks, I further understand that carrying a bag with any amount of loads properly is very important to our body as after long period of time can cause our spine to grow out of shape. And it is very difficult to recover back to normal shape again. I am using sling bag when I go out with friends or school.

I could really feel the strain painful sour effect on the side of the shoulder after carrying for about thirty minutes and I need to rest for awhile, if not my lower back would start to stressed up also. The effort exerted is greater as its only supported by one side of the shoulder.

Now, I would consider using a backpack if I am carrying heavy loads around 15-20% of my body weight with proper carrying of it by carrying it around my chest height level in order to balance off the force exerted on left and right side of the body. I would take notice in future for the way I am carrying bag more carefully.
