RJ for 2nd talk

DISPEL: to remove false ideas, usually by proving them wrong or unnecessary

What myths about exercise have you been able to dispel today?

The myths about exercise that I have able to dispel today is that endurance athletes do not fall ill more than other athletes. From previous generations, people experienced that the more they exercise, the healthier they would be. Therefore, this concept is passed down to the next generation to us, telling us that the more we exercise, our body’s stamina would increase and fight against any illness. Thus, many of us think that this is true since it’s passed down by experienced elderly.

Nevertheless, through this talk, researchers had found out that overtraining would lead to indirect mechanisms and direct mechanisms. We cannot depend solely on exercising to keep ourselves healthy as inadequate nutrients in the body will also causes direct and indirect negative effects on the immune function which results in decrease of the whole immune system, which in turn, lead to illnesses.

Researchers have also found out the effects on intensive and moderate exercise and training. For effect on intensive training and moderate exercising, proves that we will get ill more easily as the immune system is decreasing.

Lastly, in order to keep ourselves healthier, we must be able to balance out both exercising in our own pace with a suitable duration and eating a balanced diet to replenish the nutrients in our body. By doing all this, we can maintain a good immune system in our body to fight against all kinds of illnesses.

The most important thing that we do have to keep in our mind is Cortisol increase, Cytokines decrease, immune function affected.
